Moving to California at fifteen to live for the first time with her father, the girl found a kindred spirit in her singer/songwriter dad willing to indulge her with lessons in acting, singing, piano and even in finding her an agent. However, her father’s harsh criticisms only exacerbated the pain created by an disregarding mother and the teen’s sensitivities proved too much for the relationship. In the aftermath of her father’s divorce, Arena followed her stepmother’s footsteps and moved out on her own shortly after her sixteenth birthday.
Arena’s youthful belief in her own magic coupled with fantastically supportive friendships assured her that stardom would soon be hers. After being taken for a ride by the music industry and having to take the public, on that ride with her sucked the wind out of her. She then retreated into the strange mix of a loving and abusive relationship with a partner who had lifelong struggles with addiction. Unknowingly, Arena took with her a cancerous doubt in her abilities to make any of life’s larger choices involving love, work, dreams or where to call home.
With uncertainty and pain and constantly unearthing her own wretched shortcomings, Amy Arena lumbered through with the leftovers of hope her soul had been feeding off of for years to create “Liquid Reality.” She did so, once again, with the support of incredible friends. She also received the support of her loving, yet critical father, who continues to try to understand her as she does him. Although her mother didn’t lend a hand, the vocalist is extremely pleased that her mother actually told her that she was impressed. Finally, we’re getting somewhere.
Please, come along.
