Twelve Days of Christmas

Hey everyone,

I’ve been extremely stressed out trying to figure out how to get from LA to Philly to Detroit to Philly then back to Detroit again. Ridiculous. The idea comes at a particular rough time because after going to class in LA on Wednesday, then coming back home, I went to the San Francisco Bay Area for Thanksgiving. Then I came back to the mountains, went back to class in LA, and decided to work up in SF for the weekend and then came back to the mountains. Ugh. I came home wiped out.

Plus, I never want to leave the East Bay. I’ve got to reach stardom in LA quickly so I can buy my dream home in the Oakland Hills. As of yet, I haven’t found any great gigs. It seems that mostly my issue is that I don’t have a film reel. Apparently, people want to see how you look on camera before they even invite you to audition in front of the camera. And no one has bothered to give me copy. Oh, have you heard that complaint before? Sorry. Some of you probably remember the story about trying to get copy from a hostile director/producer for the feature I did in Philly. Wow! Did that end badly.

Most of the producers just opt to ignore my requests. Not even a “No, I lost the film. It got damaged. My partner won’t let go of it.” Nothing. And I’m frankly surprised that the guy who wanted to see much of me for the pilot has chosen to hire someone else… I assume. But I LOVE class. And next week we meet an agent. I really hope they need petite, quirky brunettes in their late twenties. Yeah, I said late twenties. I said LATE TWENTIES!

Ok, that’s not going to sell.

Anyway, the people who take risks without seeing a demo are the students offering copy and credit. Ha ha ha ha! There’s no way I’m getting roped into any projects that lie about copy. I’ve been paid for all but one of my films and STILL DIDN’T GET COPY? Are producer/director types just really proprietary and deranged? Recently, though, I saw a call for a Christmas project to be broadcast on the Internet. Though I hate smoking weed, the Stoner’s Choir did seem to fit my type. And though I really don’t like working for the illusion of copy, the project is being done by a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade in Los Angeles. I had so much fun with them in NYC that I’d love to participate and I figure there’s got to be a way to steal my image off of the Internet somehow.

So that’s what I’m doing this Sunday.

I’ve got six copies left from the first press of the aggravated Affirmations CD on www.amyarena.com and will be releasing a new one quite soon. Partial proceeds are still going to the animal charity. I know you know a lot more has been happening, but I’ve been in the car so much I just haven’t been able to collect my thoughts.

As it is the holiday season, I’m sure most of you can’t keep your heads together, either, so my wish for you in the New Year is to maintain and stay collected!

be together,

me

By the way, a Sophisticated Hobo would be frequenting high end department stores right now to take advantage of free samples. Frequent the cooking, chocolate, and cosmetic departments. Sometimes the gifts are worth giving away at Christmas.

Freaks of the week are obviously the people who caused a deadly stampede at Walmart. WALMART! Are you kidding me? People get way too excited about cheap crap responsible for lowered wages, job loss, and a very strange codependency with China.
We are who we are. Not what we buy.

The jury is out on my hero this month. There could be more than one.
